Steven Blass Obituary

Steven Blass passed away unexpectedly on April 2, 2008, in his home.

Steven was born Sept. 5, 1957. He was 50 years old.

Steven's laugh was from his soul. His laugh was the most distinct and memorable laugh you had ever heard, and even if you only heard it once you could never forget it!

Steven is survived by his loving son Steven Jr.; daughter, Jennifer; grandchildren, CJ, Alexis, Jordan and Alyssa.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, at the Calamingos Ranch, 327 S. Latigo Canyon Road, Malibu.

Assisting the family with funeral arrangements is the family-owned and -operated Rose Family Funeral Home and Cremation, 805-58800; our family helping yours.

Well, I have been putting this off for a while. When Steve left us, I lost a significant part of me with him. You see, I was a pretty decent human being before I met him, thanks to my dad and grandma. But Steve really made me into who I am today. He encouraged, trained, tutored, mentored and terrified me daily for 10 years until I became more than I thought I could ever be.
So what do I say about the man? I could type daily in here for the next few months without even scratching the surface.
Steven was a remarkable man. For those of you reading this that didn't know him... Sorry, but you are at a loss. Those of you who did... know exactly what I mean.

We are all at a loss without our friend. Keep a seat warm for me up there buddy... someday we will meet again... and we're going to CABO!

It has been said that “There is a joy in sorrow which none but a mourner can know.” And so it seems to be with this. Steven was always on the extreme, whether it was joy, sadness, pride, risk, adventure, danger, friendship or love, when he did something, he went all out. Those that were close to Steve knew the depths of the joy and the sorrows of his life. You could see it on his face, you could hear it in his voice, and you could recognize the exuberance or absence of his laughter. Now that Steve has been relieved of his worldly restraints, those of us that remain to keep his spirit alive in our thoughts, will remember more vividly the times of joy and laughter, those things that make our faces grin involuntarily. Yet very faintly, in the back of our conscious we will feel a sense of gladness that in Steve’s death, he has been relieved of his pain and sorrow forever.

Steven - I really thank you for sharing this "island" with me. You made it fun. I will miss your laugh and always be grateful for your kind words and support.

I worked with Steve for several years at Xircom. He was one of the most positive, upbeat, and genuinely enthusiastic people on that team. One could simply not be "down" when Steve was around.

My sympathies to all his family and friends.
