Thomas Nelson Obituary
Ojai, CA
After a year long battle with pancreatic cancer, our father Thomas (Tom, Tommy) William Nelson, Jr., age 68, passed away on May 26, 2018 at his home in Ojai, CA. Tom was born in Subic Bay, Philippines to Thomas Nelson Sr. and Faustina Alido on June 17, 1949. He attended Hueneme High School where he picked up his love for the ocean and surfing. After high school, he relocated to Texas where he became a Master Plumber and soon after, a jack of all trades. His love of the ocean would later lead him back to California. Tom is survived by his wife Jamie; his children Darrick (Della), Jeremy (Jennifer), Joseph, Krystina and Kaitlin Nelson; siblings Cynthia Ray, Tina (Rob) McKinney, Alice (Rich) Nelson-Hadley, Beverly (Rene) Lafontaine, Darrell (Sherry) and Barbara Nelson; and his many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Stephanie Aikins, son Thomas Nelson III, and sisters Debra Huante and Janet Rae Nelson.
Our dad was a strong man both physically and emotionally. He was one of the hardest working men we knew, and it hurt him that he was unable to work since his diagnosis. He had a big heart, and was a protective father and brother. He had a dry sense of humor and was always making everyone laugh. He was our hero, our shelter from the storm, and he was always there for us, when we needed him. He loved his family and he never wanted to leave us, but we are so grateful that he is no longer suffering.
The family would like to express our gratitude to all of his family, friends, and the community who came together to support us during this difficult time.
His memorial will held on Saturday, June 16th at 2:00pm at Surfer's Point, with a potluck at Alice Nelson-Hadley's to follow.
Arrangements are under the direction of the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, 757 East Main Street, Ventura.
