Bill is survived by daughters, Sue Hammaker, Carol Stoughton (Roger) and Sigrid Best Wong; grandchildren, Julie Stoughton (Dan Loranz), Debby Kaschner (George), Dave Stoughton (Christy), Heidi Wong, Lisa Wong Price (Jim) and Susi Wong Plascencia (Carlos); great-grandchildren Rowan and Teagan Stoughton Loranz, Meghan and Liam Kaschner, Will Stoughton and Erica Smith, Jared Wong and Arianna, Jordan (Stephanie), Christian, Jacob, Anthony and Micaela Plascencia and a great-great grandchild Daniel Plascencia.

He held YMCA executive positions at Penn State; Johns Hopkins; University of Pittsburg; Industrial USO, Phoenix; and Ventura County, (1945-1969).
Bill supported groups devoted to peace, social justice, the environment, racial equality, food banks and health. Recently he focused on peace activities. He was active in the Camarillo Democratic Club. He and Twila were founding members of the Funeral Consumers Alliance Channel Cities supporting pre-arranged, low cost funeral arrangements. Bill was the first president of the Ventura East Rotary Club. He nurtured large gardens wherever he lived and shared the bounty. He was fond of swimming, handball, camp life (first Eagle Scout in Lansdowne, Pa.) and other physical activities including a climb of Mt. Whitney in his late 50s.
Bill and Twila were active AARP leaders and program directors in several of their retirement communities. Bill was still organizing local, informal tours and events, called Go-See-Ask, in his 90s. He was a Camarillo Don in 1998. Bill was an active member of the Camarillo United Methodist Church where a Peace Pole was erected in his honor on his 100th birthday. He was an avid reader and letter writer including many letters to the Star. He donated his body for science to UCLA. At his 100th birthday celebration, 200 people attended; he was in his element.
His memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, June 30 at the Camarillo UMC, 291 Anacapa Dr.

Dear Sue,
My deepest sympathies to you and your family in your loss. I met Bill and Twila years ago at Church and saw how they lived their lives as Christ would have us all do.
I admired his thoughtful letters to the Editor of the Star.

Sue, Thank you for sending the sites about your Dad. I remember him and your mother so well from Y-camps. What wonderful memories. I also remember looking up to your and wanting to help you with the kids at day camps and up at Y-Camp. I had a few opportunities to visit with your folks in the late 90's at the Methodist Church in Camarillo when mom was involved in Ventura County Council of Churches. I know you've devoted your life these past several years to your parents. What a tribute to you all. Maybe we can get together when I'm down next time. I'll e-mail you ahead of time. The Hammaker Family was an important part of our family's life and will always be remembered fondly. Lynette Farr Moss, Janet, Marila and Ruth

Dear Sue,
Our condolences on the loss of your Dad. We send you our love; know that our hearts and thoughts are with you. We met your Dad at his 100th birthday party where he gave away so many books on Democracy, Peace, and Saving our Environment. We took a few and will always think of him when we read them again.

Dear Sue - I surely will miss Bill. He and Twila were among the first people Lew and I met at church and we had lunch out with them frequently after the services. Later I got to know Bill much better, went on several Go-See-Ask tours, joined FOR and admired the work he did for Peace. He was a force to be reckoned with, a man who made a mark for himself in so many ways. I always considered him a friend and someone to emulate. He had a long and interesting life and, blessedly, did not suffer, but left this world on his terms and enjoying life to the last.
My prayers are with you and your extended family.
Sincerely, Joy Hart

Marco - I'll miss sharing our birthday together, trying to answer the challenging trivia questions you used to ask to keep my brain from becoming gelatenous, causing trouble together, the sparkle in your eyes, and your peaceful nature. I can only hope to follow in your footsteps and pass along peace to everyone I meet.
Love, Dave......your grandson
