As a young adult, he stayed with his grandparents while attending Southwest Virginia Community College, where he earned his General Educational Development certificate. He later introduced his wife, Lilian, to Little Fox Creek and the warmth of Aunties Betty and Bobbie and to Jody's legendary biscuits and gravy.
