Richard Sanfilippo Obituary

Richard Charles Sanfilippo

January 26, 1949 - August 14, 2016

Visalia

Richard Charles "Dick" Sanfilippo was born January 26, 1949 in Sacramento, Ca. To parents Mike and Jennie Sanfilippo. He was the second of six children, five boys and a girl. Dick spent his early childhood living in the Sacramento area until he was 16 when his father purchased an orange grove in Woodlake, Ca. and relocated the family there. Dick wasn't thrilled about the move initially, coming from the big city to tiny, rural Woodlake. But he soon made friends and grew to love the area. As a young man Dick spent lots of time with his buddies building hot rods and racing them around in the country. He loved driving through three rivers and into Sequoia National Park. He developed a love for skiing and with friends and family often took trips to Mineral King and other parts of the Sierra Nevada's for extreme back country skiing adventures. He was proud of the fact that he was one of few people to ever hike in and ski off of Sawtooth Peak. Shortly after high school Dick married his first wife Cynthia and soon after started a family. He served honorably in the National Guard in the early 1970's. He then began working in underground construction and soon became known for his expertise and work ethic in that field. He spent the rest of his adult life working for various companies as a manager/estimator/dispatcher in underground construction. He was very proud of the numerous large and complex projects he was part of during a long career. Soon Dick's family grew when he married his second wife Nancy and her two young daughters came into his life. Dick was always one of the boys, but those two girls changed his life. He loved them dearly. After raising his children to adulthood dick's two sons followed their father to work in his chosen field and both made careers of their own. Dick's daughters both went into medical care. Later in life dick met and married his third wife, Becky and his family grew again with the addition of her two children. Her son also followed Dick to work in underground construction. Dick was an avid golfer. He loved the game and when he wasn't playing with his buddies or his sons he was watching it intently on tv.

On Sunday August 14, 2016 Dick Sanfilippo passed away surrounded by his family. He is preceded in death by his mother Jennie, his brothers Mike and Joe and his sister Phyliss. He is survived by his wife Becky and her two children Naomi and Ezra, his father Mike, his brothers Chuck and Phil, his sons Aaron and Alex, his daughters Toni and Cortni and numerous grandchildren.
