Rosa M. Sousa

Tulare - Rosa Morais Sousa, age 87, passed away on Friday, January 12, 2018. She was born to the late António and Maria Umbelina Cardoso on March 20, 1930.

Rosa was born in the Açores on the island of São Jorge, in the municipality of Calheta, in the region of Laural. She married Germano Sousa on November 14, 1964 and they both migrated to the United States in 1968.

Rosa worked as a personal seamstress for most of her life, including employment at Safarjan's Formal Wear as well as A Formal Affair Bridal Shop, both located in Tulare, Ca.

Rosa was a beautiful, loving, caring, funny, talented, strict, strong, feisty, Portuguese woman who made an indelible mark on this world. Family, friends, sewing, and cooking were her passion and delight. Many in the family enjoyed her hand-made sewing creations as well as her delicious Portuguese cuisine. The family still regards her Portuguese Sweet Bread (Pão Doce) as the best around!

Rosa is survived by her husband, Germano Sousa of Tulare, Ca, her sons Carl Sousa (Gracie) of Tulare, Ca and Eddie Sousa (Rhonda) of Visalia, Ca, and her daughter Natalie Giannandrea (Dino) of Visalia, Ca. She is also survived by her brothers Gil and Alberto Cardoso of the Açores and Tulare, Ca and her sisters Matilde and Adelaide Silva of Modesto and Turlock, Ca. She also leaves behind numerous loving relatives and friends including 8 grandkids, Samantha, Anthony, and Savannah Sousa, Kyle and Carter Sousa, and Dino, Danielle, and Enzo Giannandrea. She will be joining her beloved son, António Alberto.

Visitation will be held Sunday, January 21, 2018, 2-4 p.m. at Miller's Tulare Funeral Home, 151 N H St, Tulare.

Recitation of the Rosary and Mass of the Resurrection will be held Monday, January 22, 2018, 10:30 am at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 125 E. Pleasant Ave, Tulare, with burial at North Tulare Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Miller's Tulare Funeral Home.
