STEVEN RAY HARMS, 53, went to meet his Heavenly Father on September 1, 2015, after bravely fighting cancer.
Steve was born in Fresno on December 4, 1961. He graduated from McLane High in 1979 and Fresno State in 1984. While in college, he met Laura, who became his wife in 1985. After working in banking for several years, he changed career directions and went to Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Chicago.
Steve pastored the Evangelical Free Church in Atascadero for six years, and then moved to Visalia to join the staff of Neighborhood Church and serve as the lead pastor. He also served the Visalia Fire Department as their volunteer chaplain, a position he greatly enjoyed.
Steve is survived by his wife Laura, daughter Audrey (Akshay) Baid, daughter Chelsea Harms, and son Austin Harms. He is also survived by his parents Marvin and Darlene Harms, sister Renee (Dave) Slayback, sister Sheryl (Sam) Jessup, numerous nieces and nephews, and many other family members who loved him and will miss him.
A memorial service will be held at 1 PM on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015 at Visalia First Assembly (Akers and Caldwell). In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Visalia Firefighters Historical and Charity Fund c/o Ray Ramirez, 2509 E. Seeger Ave., Visalia, CA 93292, or Neighborhood Church, 5505 W. Riggin Ave., Visalia, CA 93291. A memorial tribute may be offered by logging onto www.salseranddillard.com.

Pastor Steve was a great person that I met when I started attending neighborhood church and he made me feel welcomed from day one. I will miss him greatly as I enjoy the sermons that he gave and the love he showed and shared for all of the members of the church. I pray for all of his friends and family for the comfort and love of God and all as they go through these sad times. R.I.P. Pastor Steve and enjoy all of God's glory that you deserve and that he has prepared for you.
