Albert Schmitt Obituary

Albert W. Schmitt

White River Junction, VT - Albert W. Schmitt, 74, formerly of Randolph, VT, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2025, at DHMC in Lebanon after a yearlong battle with chronic illness.

Al was born in Brooklyn, NY on November 1, 1950, and was raised in Rockville Centre, NY on Long Island; he was very proud of his NY heritage. Upon High School graduation, Al enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he was stationed on the U.S.S. Constitution from 1969-73 based in Norfolk, VA, and was a proud Navy Veteran. Upon completion of his military service, Al was a long-time self-employed painter, retiring in late 2023. In 1994, Al married Dorothy Oakes and quickly became part of Dottie's large family.

Al leaves behind his daughter, Dorothea Coleman; grandson, Matthew Coleman; granddaughters, Mercedes Coleman and Dallas Wright; great-grandchildren, Gracen & Hendrick; stepsons, Robert (Daynel) and John (Carin) Oakes; daughter-in-law, Patty Oakes; his beloved granddaughter, Jennifer (Keith) DuBois, who were his caregivers in his final year; grandsons, Bobby (Taylor) and Dylan Oakes; great-granddaughters, Madison and Brenna Labbie; sisters, Lorraine Cecil of Sevierville, TN, Charlotte Rodriguez of Chapin, SC, and Karen Mulrooney of Spring Hill, FL; and brother, Robert Schmitt of Weddington, NC.

Al was predeceased by his wife, Dottie, in February 2024; his parents, Lorraine (Smith) and Frederick Schmitt; and his brother, Richard Schmitt.

Family and friends are invited to a 11am graveside service on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Valley Cemetery in Lebanon, NH.
