Carol Whitney Obituary

Carol Whitney

Taftsville, VT - Carol Elizabeth Whitney, 67, died on September 19, 2025 at the McClure Miller Respite House in Colchester, Vermont.

Carol was born July 23, 1958 to Mildred (Pulsifer) Whitney and George "Ike" Edgar Whitney in Windsor, Vermont.

She graduated from Woodstock Union High School in 1976; from Gordon College with a BA in Mathematics in 1980; and from UVM with a MaEd in 1980.

Carol worked for the South Royalton School District as a math teacher from 1982 – 1997; Hartford Middle School from 1997 – 2007; and the Hartford High School from 2007 – 2017.

She also worked for several years at her second job at The Quechee Gorge Village in Quechee, Vt. She did a five year stint of teaching math at Vermont Adult Learning, and she finished up by working her retirement job at BG's Marker/3 Corners Market in Hartland, Vermont.

The joy, purpose, and meaning of her life resided in the hands and hearts of the many. Many people whom she got to know and love, and, whose love, in return, made the journey worth every step.

Jesus said: "In this was, everyone will know that you are my disciple: They will know it, if you really love each other" John 13:25

Carol is predeceased by her mother, father, and a sister Helen Anne Whitney. She is survived by a sister Joan (Earle) Mazyck, nieces Kathryn Augusta Byrd and Zoe Whitney Mazyck, and many cousins and close friends.

There will be no calling hours, just a simple graveside service on Tuesday September 30th at 11:00am in the Taftsville Cemetery. If you wish to celebrate her life, do it without a party or balloons or fancy catered foods; please open your hearts and your eyes to the desperate people in the dark forgotten corners of this world and love them.

Ms. Whit was my geometry teacher in high school at HHS. She was my favorite teacher. She made learning fun and enjoyable. She was a wonderful human and will be deeply missed.

Miss Whitney was my math teacher at south royalton school in the eighties. She once told me a story about how r and her sister Helen. They would take a bath together as kids and her sister told her that "H" stands for Helen and "C" stands for Carol. So she never got any hot water. I never knew she had another sister. Miss Whitney was a great mentor and Teacher. Im so sorry for your loss. May she be at peace. Penny Demar ( Burke).

Mildred , Carols Mom was my neighbor for many years. I would periodically visit with her for afternoon tea.
Upon her passing Carol became a cheerful, joyful neighbor. I will miss her jolly smile and friendly face.
She rests now with Dad, Mom and Helen. Till we meet again!
