Emily Pasquill Obituary

Emily Angelina (Zappala) Pasquill

Hanover, NH - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Emily Angelina (Zappala) Pasquill, who departed this life on November 28, 2025, in Thomson, Georgia. Emily was predeceased by her devoted husband of 69 years, Robert G. (Bob) Pasquill, and beloved children Jeanne (Pasquill) Symonds, of Swanzey, New Hampshire and Robert G. (Bobby) Pasquill, Jr. of Montgomery, Alabama.

Emily was born March 14, 1933, in Hanover, New Hampshire to parents Ernest and Jennie (Laudani) Zappala, and spent her formative years in the idyllic upper Connecticut River valley of New Hampshire. Ernest, a carpenter by profession, died young, leaving Jennie, daughter Emily and brothers Salvatore (Sam) and Dominick (Dom) to fashion a life for themselves in Hanover.

The family thrived in Hanover, with Jennie running a well-loved dry goods store in downtown Hanover as well as a successful dinner club for students at nearby Dartmouth College. After graduating from Hanover High School in 1951, Emily travelled from the mountains to the seacoast to enroll at the University of New Hampshire in Durham, New Hampshire.

It was there she met the love of her life, Bob, then a rising varsity football letterman for the UNH Wildcats. Bob, a graduate of Lawrence (Massachusetts) High School, met Emily at a mixer at the famed Stone Church in Newmarket, New Hampshire and fell in love. As with all UNH men of the time, Bob attended the U.S. Army's Reserve Officers Training Corps at UNH and graduated a Second Lieutenant in 1954, deploying to Korea in 1955 to enforce the then tenuous Armistice.

Emily was a 1955 graduate of the University of New Hampshire, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Romance Languages, and was active in the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority, Lambda Pi Language Honor Society, Newman Club, Spanish Club, French Club, Glee Club, and in interhouse sports.

In Korea, Bob served as a battery officer with the 8th Army I Corps artillery at Camp Saint Barbara. Some of Bob's best memories were of coaching and playing football in Korea for the 8th Army I Corps' "Bullseye" and "Projos" football teams, entertaining troops deployed throughout South Korea, as well as flying the Cessna L-19 Bird Dog, a light artillery reconnaissance plane, on various missions. Bob and Emily were married in November 1956, and Bob was honorably discharged in January 1957.

Emily settled into domestic life with daughter Jeanne, later joined by brother Bobby and sisters Susan and Carolyn. After his military service, Bob became an insurance claims professional, leading the family in postings across the Northeast, including Rutland, Vermont, South Portland, Maine, Northboro, Massachusetts and eventually Keene, New Hampshire. Like her mother, despite the full-time efforts of raising a family, Emily still found the time to work as a Sales Associate at Family Stores of Hanover, New Hampshire and later as a Bridal Consultant at Keene Furs & Fashions of Keene, New Hampshire.

In July 1990, Bob and Emily journeyed south, first to Evans, Georgia, then Matthews, North Carolina and eventually to Sun City Hilton Head in Bluffton, South Carolina.

Emily was an avid reader, and enjoyed Golf, Croquet, Bocce, Bunco and Bridge with her friends at Sun City. She loved gardening, cruising, family gatherings and neighborhood activities.

She is predeceased by her parents, as well as her brothers Sam and Dom of Hanover, New Hampshire. She is survived by her loving family, including daughter Susan and husband Michael Cullen of Warwick, Rhode Island, daughter Carolyn and husband Jerry Durham of Augusta, Georgia, son-in-law Robert Symonds of Swanzey, New Hampshire and grandchildren Suzan (van Dongeren) and Jessie Flakes of Evans, Georgia, Bonny van Dongeren of Atlanta, Georgia, Robert (Robbie) Symonds, III and Richard (Ritchie) Symonds of Swanzey, New Hampshire and great-grandchild Harper Ann Flakes of Evans, Georgia.

The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation of the loving care Emily received by the dedicated and professional healthcare providers of AtHome Senior Living of Thomson, Georgia. A graveside ceremony for the family will be held in Hanover, New Hampshire on a future date. An on-line guestbook can be found at rand-wilson.com
