Hartland, VT - Mamie Lou Hanscom passed away on June 28, 2023, at the age of 88, at the Jack Byrne Center at DHMC in Lebanon, NH.

Mamie was born June 12, 1935, in Bethel, VT, a daughter of Eben and Ella (Pratt) Proctor. She grew up in Gaysville, VT and graduated from Hartford High School in 1951. She attended Lyndon State College where she met her husband, Howard Hanscom, aka "Scooter", and married on September 12, 1953, in White River Junction, VT. They lived in Hardwick before moving to Hartland, VT, where they built their home and started a family.

Mamie was an avid writer and enjoyed her creativity through an online writing club. She wrote many short stories, from fictional characters to personal experiences. She had many unpublished works in progress and brought her sense of humor, wit, and descriptive way of words to her writings. She also communicated her talents through oil paintings on canvas. Her greatest joy came from spending time with family members, times at the camp on Groton Pond, watching her son drum in his band, assisting her husband with his school functions and activities, and reading books during quiet moments alone at her home.

She is predeceased by her husband, Howard Hanscom in 1996, a sister, Mary Ella Atkins and one grandson.

Mamie is survived by four sons, Michael L. Hanscom of Thomasville, GA, Peter J. Hanscom, Christopher A. Hanscom and Andrew S. Hanscom all of Hartland, VT; 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; and two sisters, Cheryl Wood of Wyoming and Joanne Best of Bethel, VT.
