Mary Woodman Obituary
Mary Woodman
Claremont, NH - Mary Elizabeth (Picknell) Woodman, a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully in Claremont, N.H., on October 20, 2025 at the age of 82.
She was born in Claremont, NH., on December 23, 1942, the youngest of three children born to Erwin and Margaret (Breck) Picknell.
Mary spent her life in Claremont and graduated from Stevens High School as part of the class of 1961. Mary's roots ran very deep in Claremont. Her family, the Tylers, Emersons and Brecks were instrumental founding families of Claremont, a lineage she was very proud to be a part of. Her ancestor Colonel Bengamin Tyler and his family helped to found and build the Union Episcopal Church in West Claremont as well as several of the mills that Claremont was known for. Mary served the Church in many ways and was a devoted and active congregate.
Mary never shied away from the responsibility of community involvement. While raising their two sons, Stephen and Charles, she actively supported her husband, Robert Woodman, in his many years on the Claremont City Council and other board involvements. Mary also maintained her own affiliations, serving as the elected Claremont School District Secretary, the secretary of the Claremont, Cornish and SAU #6 School Boards. She also held officer positions for the Stevens High School Alumni, the Sullivan County Farm Bureau, and Sullivan County 4H.
Mary was a hard-working woman. She had a long career and in 2011, Mary retired from her secretary position at KUA. Throughout her retirement she found enjoyment in her volunteer roles and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Later, one of her greatest joys was her great-granddaughter, Margaret (Maggie), her "grocery shopping buddy".
Mary is survived by her sons, Stephen (Kelly), Charlie (April) of Claremont, her grandchildren, Erin Woodman of Hartford, VT, Tyler Woodman (fiancé Toni) of Hadley, Mass, Samantha Bryant (John), and Evan Woodman both of Claremont, great-grandchildren, Kacey and Keegan Woodman and Margaret Bryant, two brothers, Robert Picknell of GA and William Picknell of FL., a nephew, Dana and nieces, Cindy and Angie.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Robert Woodman, her parents, Erwin and Margaret (Breck) Picknell, and one nephew, Sean Picknell.
Visiting hours will be held at Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad St., Claremont, on Tuesday, October 28th, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a service at Union Episcopal Church on Wednesday, October 29th at 11:00 a.m. Followed by the burial at West Claremont Burial Grounds. A reception for family and friends will follow at The Union Church Parish Hall, Claremont.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Union Church Building Fund at P.O. Box 902, Claremont, NH 03743 or Stevens High School Alumni Association at P.O. Box 710, Claremont, NH 03743.
