Nancy Nichols Obituary

Nancy Nichols

New London, NH - Nancy L. (Livingstone) Nichols died peacefully with her children by her side on November 2, 2025, in Lebanon, NH, after a fall in her home at the age of 86.

Nancy was born on May 22, 1939, in New York, NY, to Alexander F. and Dorothy H. (Nickerson) Livingstone. She was their second child, a surprise twin with her slightly older brother, Alexander "Sandy" Livingstone.

Nancy attended high school in Groton, MA, and graduated from Westbrook Junior College in Westbrook, ME.

Nancy met her husband, F. Stanley "Stan" Nichols, in the late 1950s, when they worked at neighboring summer camps on Cape Cod. They had been married for 47 years when Stan died of cancer in 2007. Together, they ran the family's manufacturers' sales organization, the Nichols Associates, for over 30 years.

Nancy loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and her community could rely on her to help whenever needed. She always hosted a family Christmas (her favorite holiday) party that was not to be missed.

Nancy was an accomplished seamstress, having won many local and state awards for her work and at least one national award. She loved sewing and knitting and often made handmade gifts for her relatives and friends.

Nancy was firm in her Christian faith, and during her time in Shelburne, she was a member of the First Congregational Church of Shelburne. While living in New Hampshire, she was an active member of the South Newbury Union Church and dedicated much of her time to helping others. She spent several years working part-time in the dining hall at Colby-Sawyer College in New London, NH, where she loved interacting with the students who were always greeted by her infectious smile. She worked briefly as a bagger and cashier at Hannaford supermarket in New London, NH, where she enjoyed making new friends and seeing old friends come through her lane.

Nancy and Stan lived in Melrose, MA, during their early years together. They had four children, and in 1974, the family moved to Shelburne, MA, where they lived for more than 30 years. In retirement, they split their time between Largo, Florida, and Newbury, NH. After Stan passed, Nancy settled in New London, NH, to be nearer her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, where she has lived for the last nine years.

Nancy is predeceased by her husband, Frederick Stanley "Stan" Nichols, her eldest son, Geoffrey "Geoff" Scott Nichols, her parents, Alexander F. and Dorothy H. (Nickerson) Livingstone, her sister, Marcia Vandermast, and her twin brother, Alexander "Sandy" Livingstone.

Nancy is survived by her son Christopher "Chris" M. Nichols and his wife Rebecca "Becky" J. (Lemek) Nichols of Westford, MA, her son Frederick "Rick" S. Nichols of Tilton, NH, her daughter, Rebecca L. Nichols, and her fiancé Paul Chabot of West Dover, VT, her sister, Janet Shirley of Franklin, NH, 11 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the South Newbury Union Church, 162 Village Rd, Newbury, NH 03255, with a reception at the nearby Friendship House. A burial service will be held at noon on Monday, November 10, 2025, at Hill Cemetery, Old Village Rd, Shelburne, MA 01370, where she will be laid to rest with Stan. A reception at the nearby Fellowship Hall with follow.

In lieu of flowers please send donations to the South Newbury Union Church, 162 Village Rd, Newbury, NH 03255, and/or the First Congregational Church of Shelburne, 21 Church Common Road, Shelburne, MA 01370.

Yesterday

In our school years Nancy was always positive and fun to be with. And altho we saw her infrequently thereafter she was always the same. It seemed like she still lived nearby. Indeed, when driving by the old red family house on Chicopee Row, always I would think that’s where Nancy lived. I will continue to do so. RIP Nancy.. D

I was one of the first cashiers Nancy met at Hannafords. My first impression of her was that she was a sweet, bright woman with a smile that was always present. We would always talk and ask how we were, she would always ask about my chickens and talk about her loved ones. Her passing broke my heart and to her family and friends I share my condolences. I’m so glad I got to work with her within her last few months, may she rest in peace.

Nacy joined our elementary class with her brother in the 5th grade at Groton Mass. she was one of those classmates who was always smiling and upbeat. We saw each other at our class reunions (class of 1957). But other than that our lives were in their own orbits. When I decided to touch base with old friends I had not had contact with during my late wife’s multiple year battle with two separate.cancers. , I was headed to Maine and Groton snd on the spur ofr the moment I called Nancy and we caught up during two New England visits. She was the same smiling happy person I remembered from those classrooms at Boutwell so many moons ago. Her tragic accident reminds me that each day is a gift from God and we are its keepers. So I remind mysrlf to never take a day for granted. She will be missed by many more than her loving immediate family. May she rest in peace. Dr dave Zjackson.

Met Nancy in Florida after Stan had passed. Took a few classes with her and eventually Nancy joined us at the Dover NH chapter of Quilts of Valor. Had many wonderful times just being friends. Nancy was the sweetest, kindest and generous lady. My sincere condolences to her family. Marilyn Nolan

I’ll miss you, Aunt Nancy. Very happy to have gotten to spend some time with you since moving to Vermont, and having my husband and kids meet you, too. You were always a delight to be around, chatting by the pond while the kids and dogs swam together! Love you.

Nancy was a kind and thoughtful woman. We enjoyed knowing her and were delighted when we encountered her working at Hannafords. Her cheerful manner was refreshing and her care for each customer was much appreciated. She will be missed. Our sympathy to Rebecca and her children, and to the rest of her family.
