Norma McClelland Obituary

Norma V. McClelland

Wilder, VT - Norma V. McClelland, 87, died Saturday, August 24, 2024, at the Jack Byrne Center for Palliative Care in Lebanon, NH.

She was born September 8, 1936, in Wilder, VT, a daughter of Arthur and Beatrice (Wheeler) Picken. Norma spent her youth in Wilder and Norwich and attended schools in Hartford. She was married to Robert McClelland in 1968, and they lived and raised their family in the White River Jct. area. Norma stayed at home while her kids were growing up and baby sat for other neighborhood children. After the kids were grown, she began working as a dietary technician at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover and later worked at the new Dartmouth Hitchcock Hospital in Lebanon. After retiring from the hospital, she worked as a cashier at the Hanover Co-op until retiring for good. After Mr. McClelland died in 2006, she moved to Windsor Hollow where she has lived until residing at the Margaret Pratt Community.

Norma loved spending time on the water from an early age. As a young girl she spent time boating on the Connecticut in boats her father made and later in life the family made countless memories spending summers on Mascoma Lake. Norma was also an avid country music fan and more recently enjoyed word puzzles, playing cards and bingo.

She was predeceased by her husband, Robert; a sister, Thelma Johnson, and a brother, Robert Picken.

She leaves her children Kimberly Dunn (Christopher) of Charlotte, NC, Karla Blake (Michael) of Hartland, VT and Gary McClelland of Windsor, VT; grandchildren, Aaron and Ryan Blake, David Cutts, and Shannon Martin, six great-grandchildren; brothers, Norman "Buzz" Picken of Quechee, William Picken of TN and Saundra Koloski of WV as well as several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, August 29th at 2PM in the Christian Street Cemetery in Wilder.
