Raymond Merrihew Obituary

Raymond Merrihew

Lebanon, NH - Raymond G. Merrihew, 83, of Lebanon, NH, passed away on August 17, 2025, at the VA Medical Center in White River Junction, VT.

Ray was born in Lebanon, NH, to Thomas Merrihew and Ruth Strong, and graduated from Lebanon High School in 1960. He honorably served in the United States Air Force before beginning a long career at Dartmouth College, where he worked in the Paint Shop for 42 years until his retirement in 2009.

He married Mel Goodwin, his devoted wife, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and family in Lebanon. They raised three children: Raymond (Skip) Merrihew Jr. of Rio, Wisconsin; Scott Merrihew of Canaan, NH; and Jill Sensenig of Meriden, NH. Ray also leaves behind grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immeasurable joy and pride.

Ray will be remembered for his quick humor, kind heart, and generosity. He believed that "kindness doesn't cost a thing," a motto he lived by each day. He found fulfillment in simple joys-gardening, woodworking, painting, and home projects-and had a mechanical mind that could dream up and build gadgets from scraps. Curious and adventurous, he loved learning new things, whether it was tinkering with social media or picking up bits of the languages his grandchildren studied.

A lifelong fan of Dartmouth Ice Hockey, Ray rarely missed a home game. He also dedicated many years to the Boy Scouts as both participant and leader, sharing his skills and enthusiasm with younger generations. Known to hand out dollar coins to children he met around town, Ray found happiness in small acts of kindness that left lasting impressions.

Ray's presence was larger than life, and his generous spirit touched all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and kindness that will be carried forward by his family and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH.
