Sanford Speer

Croydon, NH - Sanford L. Speer, 89, passed away at his home on March 16, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.

Sanford was born on July 20, 1935 to Walter and Pheobe (Clark) Speer in Bedford, NY.

He grew up and graduated high school in Stamford, CT and then enlisted in the US Army, serving in the Korean War. When he returned home he became a police officer for the City of Stamford, CT for 23 years, also serving as a firearms instructor and armorer. Sanford was a member of the Mountain View Gun Club, and a Ruling Elder for the Turn of River Presbyterian Church.

Shortly after retiring he moved to Croydon, NH where he became a member of the Croydon Fire Department, serving for 23 years. He also partnered with his family to run Speers Kawasaki Yamaha for approximately 10 years in Newport, NH.

He was predeceased by his parents; his loving wife Barbara Speer of 65 years; his four brothers and two sisters.

His surviving family includes his sons: Carl Speer and his wife Robin of Croydon, NH, and Andrew Speer of Rutland, MA; his sister Nancy Speer of Newtown, CT; 3 grandchildren, CJ, Chelsea and Austin, 2 step-grandchildren, Nicole and Morgan and 1 step-great grandson Carson and many nieces and nephews.

His family would like to thank all of his Bayada Hospice caretakers, especially Dawn and Shelley who took great care of him for the past 4 months.

Per Sanford's wishes, there will be no calling hours or services.
