A wonderful man, a significant contributor to Vermont history and railroad history in particular, Steve seemed interested in and fascinated by almost everything -- and a great contributor, in many ways. My thoughts continue to be with Steve's family and hope that passing time is helping, with the best of thoughts from family and friends from everywhere. Steve is surely missed and will always be.

It´s very sad to hear that Steve Mumley is no longer with us.
I met Steve in the 1990s. He worked for the Green Mountain Railroad, but was really an ambassador for railroad buffs of the Rutland and the Central Vermont. I´ve never known anyone with such infectious enthusiasm.
Thanks, Steve.

Dear Joanne
Sorry to hear of Steve's passing. Even though we have been out of touch for years, I still have good memories of the 'Old Days' in Hemmingford & White River Jct. The move with the Tilden rent a truck, Steve's guided tours of the area, our exchanges of business ideas and the famous Good Friday service call with Arthur !
Wishing you and your family strength and peace during this difficult time.

My condolences to the Mumley family, Larry and Marilyn and relatives on the passing of Steve, AKA: Tacker.
I remember very well our days in Alburg in the 50's and arly 60's when we were hanging out at the Alburg rail yards and marveling over the arrivals and departures of the Rutland railroad trains and the wonders they conveyed.
I'm quite sure you will be rewarded in heaven for your exemplary life with a conductorship on one of the Lords most powerful rail lines.

We have lost a dear family member. Life won´t be the same without him, but we feel comforted knowing that he lives on in the hearts of many.
We will miss his smile, his jokes, stories and sayings. "You think it is easy eh"! He had such a love for his family, and life in general, and appreciated the simple pleasures. Think about Steve, the next time you enjoy a glass of red wine or a vodka and tonic. The next time you listen to jazz music, or get on the dance floor, although you probably could not keep up with him. When you see the next sunrise or the perfect sunset, or the beauty of the ocean and the sound of the waves; or the rumble of a train rolling down the railway tracks! Steve will be there.
We will miss you dear Steve, until we meet again.

An old Indian saying: "the day you were born you cried and the world rejoiced! Live your life so the day you die, the world cries and you rejoice." You will be sadly missed Steve. You were a wonderful husband, father, Papa, brother and brother-in-law. As far as the railroad is concerned, you were a living legend for many. Au revoir, mon ami.

Steve was one of our favorite people in the railroad hobby. He appeared in my film documentaries more than anyone. He warm human element was in stark contrast to a subject associated with smoke and hardened steel. Steve, we wish you much love and a fond farewell until we meet again.

Our most sincere condolences to Steve's family and friends. We met him through shared railroadiana interests, the Rutland Railroad in particular, and the Rutland Railroad Historical Society. We admired him tremendously as a mentor, always happy to selflessly share his passion for history and incredible wealth of knowledge. Living in New York we didn't get to see him often, but we surely will miss him.
