Edward B. Furton, 83, of Newberry, Mich., died on Feb. 19, 2006, at D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette, Mich. Born on July 8, 1922, in Detroit, Mich., son of the late Anthony and Leontine (Rochon) Furton, Edward was a World War II Veteran, and retired from the U.S. Air Force as Tech Sgt. in 1963. While in the service, Edward was recipient of the Good Conduct Medal with four Bronze Loops, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with four bronze Battle Stars, the Philippine Victory Medal, the Occupational Medal (Germany) with Berlin Airlift Device, the National Defense Service Medal and the Air Force Longevity Service Award with four Bronze oak leaf clusters. Edward was a member of St. Gregory Catholic Church in Newberry, Mich., past Commander of Chapter 92 of the Disabled American Veterans in California, life member of the Amvets and VFW in California and currently a member of the VFW in Marquette, Mich. Edward was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Nancy and Sharon, and sisters Delores Barber and Marie Bostwick. Survivors include his wife, the former Leona Eddy, whom he married on Dec. 6, 1949, in Napoleon, Ohio; one son, Edward of Newberry, Mich.; daughters and sons-in-law, Susan Furton of Apple Valley, Mary Brackin of Baghdad, Iraq, Gloria and Buz Lowman and Kathy and Stu Lowman, all of Hesperia and Laura Durrant of Rigby, Idaho; 20 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and a sister, Ida Head of Lima, Ohio.
