Lorenza Osborn

Lorrie was born in Clovis, California in 1923 and attended schools there. She was the first Mexican-American girl to graduate from Clovis High School. After attending Fresno State and UCLA she taught for 37 years at Barstow High School. She was probably the first Mexican to teach at Barstow High. She had a large knowledge of, and lasting pride in Mexican culture and imparted this pride to her students long before there was a Chicano movement. She had a deep appreciation of Spanish literature. For many years she sponsored two campus clubs, dedicated to the appreciation of Hispanic culture and the Spanish language. Lorrie had a close association with many cousins who live in Mexico and throughout California. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Oliver. Visitation will be Thursday, Dec. 7, 2006, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Mead Mortuary. Rosary will follow the visitation at 7 p.m., also at Mead Mortuary. Funeral mass will be Friday, Dec. 8, 2006, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 505 E. Mt. View, with burial to follow at Mt. View Memorial Park, 37067 Irwin Road.
