Victorville - January 16, 1927 - April 9, 2021
Sonya Sandman of Victorville, California, died on April 9, 2021 at the age of 94.
Beloved wife of Leonard Sandman. Devoted mother of Julie Mangold. Cherished grandmother of Nicholas and Melissa. She is survived by her daughter and grandchildren who reside in Apple Valley, CA.
Sonya grew up in Lynn and graduated from Boston University and the University of Minnesota with degrees in Romance Languages. She met Lennie in Washington, DC, they married in 1957 and Sonya began the life of a diplomatic spouse. For the next 30 years, Sonya and Lennie and their daughter Julie enjoyed postings in Thailand, India, Malaysia, Korea, Israel, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Washington, DC. Sonya continued her professional career by working at various positions in the embassies' consular sections and as an administrator for several congressional representatives during her years in Washington, DC. Once retired, Sonya's energy was channeled into her friends and family and most importantly physical fitness. Her dedication to yoga, spinning classes, and personal training was well known. Her amazing spirit and devotion to her family and friends remained vibrant till the end.
Sonya Sandman has been buried in Lynn, MA in accordance with Jewish tradition.

Sonya came to my physical therapy office and she was such an inspiration to not only myself but to the other patients that had the pleasure of meeting her!

Sonya was an inspiration. She was upbeat and always full of energy and enthusiasm. It was a pleasure to work with her and to get to know her and Leonard when they lived on Cape Cod. My condolences,
