Alexander Haw Obituary

After several hard-fought battles, Alexander Montgomery Haw, known to all as Sandy, died peacefully at home Wednesday morning, surrounded by his family. Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 3, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Waco, interment followed in the church Columbarium.

Sandy graduated from Druid Hills School in Atlanta and from Washington University

in St. Louis, where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi; and cum laude from Baylor Law School, where he was a member of Law Review. He joined the law firm of Naman Howell Smith & Lee, where he practiced for 40 years. He was Board Certified in Estate Planning and Probate Law.

Since childhood Sandy's abiding passion was all things military. Prior to law school, he joined The United States Air Force, went through Officers' Training School, and emerged as a navigator bombardier. While at James Connally AFB in Waco, he met Drane Kendall and embarked on their 56-year marriage. After he retired from the practice of law, he became a colonel and was a qualified aircrew member in the USAF Civil Air Patrol auxiliary For Search & Rescue and Disaster Relief missions.

He was instrumental in establishing the Waco Symphony, was commodore of the Ridgewood Yacht Club and was involved in many other civic pursuits. A member of St. Paul's Church, he has been a colorful addition to the Men's Prayer Breakfast. Always an academic, he Relished his membership in The Philosophers.

Sandy is survived by his wife and their three children, Sally Haw, Alec Haw and Hannah Haw Weldon and their spouses Donna Haw and Bill Weldon; his brother, Stuart McSpaden Haw of St. Louis; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
