Candido Rivera Obituary

Candido G. Rivera Jr., of Waco, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 14, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Lawrence Soler officiating. Burial will follow at Rosemound Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. and Rosary service at 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, at Brazos Funeral Home.

Candido was born Jan. 31, 1942, in Lorena, Texas, to Candido and Angela Rivera. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force at the age of 18, stationed at Lackland AFB. Candido retired from the military after 23 years of service. While in the Air Force, he earned a commendation medal with a bronze cluster and a good conduct medal with a silver cluster, along with a longevity service award with bronze oak leaf clusters. While in the Army, he was awarded a good conduct medal. Other honors included the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and a Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Cande was an avid golfer. He was a member of Cottonwood and Connally Golf Courses.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Albert Rivera.

He is survived by four daughters, Cynthia Rivera of Waco, Christina Casiano of Montana, Sylvia Costilla of Gatesville, and Francine Jones of Valley Mills; four brothers, Jesse Rodriguez and wife, Angeline, Cecil Rodriguez, Johnny Rodriguez and wife, Inez, all of Waco, and Alex Rivera of Houston; two sisters, Mary Almanza of Waco, and Theresita Flemming of Houston; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; Rebecca Palacios Morris, his best friend and companion; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Joshua Johns, Brandon McDonald, Michael Jones, Michael Rosas, Richard Jones and Christopher Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be golf buddies, Uncle Ben Garcia, Ricky Garcia, Bill Cobbs, Jimmy Norman, Gilbert

Espinoza, Ernest Montemayor and Johnny Beach.
