Charles Wright Obituary

Mr. Charles E. Wright Sr. entered into eternal rest Aug. 11, 2012, at Providence Hospital in Waco. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at Wesley U.M.C. with burial following at Central Texas Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.

Charles Edward Wright was born May 29, 1937, to Mary Leake and Dan Bailey who preceded him in death. In 1955, he volunteered to serve in the U.S. Army and thus began his 28 year career as a proud servant of the U.S. Military. His career encompassed two tours in Vietnam, one tour in Germany, and numerous other stations throughout the U.S. and abroad. While in the Army, Charles earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and numerous other awards and honors. He retired from the Army in 1982, and ended his military career as a Staff Sergeant.

On Oct. 15, 1988, Charles married the love of his life, Quience Walker. Being at home wasn't for Charles, so he went to work at the VA Hospital until 1992. He enjoyed fishing, swimming, and spending time with his family and friends, whom he met any and everywhere.

Charles was preceded in death by one son, Charles E. Wright Jr.; one sister, Hattie Betty Wright; and two brothers, Henry and Walter Wright.

He leaves treasured memories in the hearts of his devoted wife, Quience Wright; four daughters, Pastor Donna Atwater, Kim Ali, Monique Robinson, and Darniece Brown and husband, Elliott; two sons, Derek Wright and wife, Janice, and Ronald Smith Sr.; one sister, Lula Johnson; one brother, Ramsey Wright; four granddaughters, Carmesha Atwater-Swan, Kenita Atwater, Brittney Robinson, and Miakayla Robinson; eight grandsons, Kory Wright, Kareem Ali, Derek Wright Jr., Jerome Wright, Jaamal Whittington, Erik Brown, Jonathan Martinez, and Ronald Smith Jr.; nine great-grandchildren, Chaniyah Swan, Tamar Swan, Derek Wright III, Donte Wright, G'Darion Thompson, Kiana Gill-Ali, Sapphire Ali, ZyRon Smith and Ronald Smith III; his devoted extended family, Robbie Walker, Clarence and Gloria Walker, Shirley and Thomas Johnson, Barbara Foxx, Claude and Rene Walker Jr., and Donald Ray Walker; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends to carry on the work left undone.
