Donnie Frank Kimmel of Laguna Park, Texas, passed away at his home with his family by his side on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, after a long, courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease and cancer. Arrangements will be made by OakCrest Funeral Home and a graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, January 19, at Oakwood Cemetery of Waco. Social distancing and facial covering will be required. The service will be livestreamed on the OakCrest Funeral Home Facebook page starting at 1 p.m.
Donnie attended Waco public schools and graduated from Waco High School in 1959. He played football for the WHS Tigers and was selected all-district guard. In 1961 he began his service in the Texas Army National Guard. Donnie married Ann Taylor in 1962. They were married for 58 years. He worked in the electrical supply business in sales, management, and as a business owner for 41 years. Donnie was a member of Lake Whitney Baptist Church. Throughout his life Donnie enjoyed golf, restoring classic cars, riding dirt bikes, boating, skiing, fishing, hunting, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Annice Kimmel; sister, Gayle; and brothers, Phil and Harold.
He is survived by his wife, Ann; daughter, Leslie Mathews and husband, Tim; son, Kevin Kimmel and wife, Wendi; grandchildren that knew him as Paw Paw: Joshua and Hunter Mathews, Brandi and Alan Gawlik, Jessie Mathews, Lexi Kimmel and Colton Kimmel; five great-grandchildren; sister, Darlene Easter and husband, Maurice; sisters-in-law, Jan Kimmel and Dorothy Kimmel; niece, Dee Ann Kimmel; and many more nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Community Hospital of Texas Providence Hospice of Whitney for providing excellent care during such a difficult time.
