Forrest Commander Obituary

Forrest D. "Red" Commander, 81, passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2013, in Granbury. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, September 14, at Wiley Funeral Home. Burial at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, September 14, at Jenkins Springs Cemetery in Early, Texas. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, September 13, at the funeral home.

Mr. Commander was born April 20, 1932, in Fort Worth, to Edward Forrest Commander and Hazel Clara Taylor Commander. He married Frances LaFon Stone, October 31, 1958, in Saginaw, Texas. He was a descendent of the Radcliff family, pioneers in the Bear Creek area of Parker and Tarrant Counties. Red served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of Granbury Church of Christ and a Master Mason for 50 plus years. Red loved people, never met a stranger and had friends everywhere. He loved his wife, kids and grandkids.

Survivors include his wife, LaFon Commander; children, Forrest "Pete" Commander Jr. and wife, Carolyn, Sherry Jones and husband, Dennis, Kathy Commander, Jennifer Commander and Jonathan Brightman; grandchildren, Mallory Wacht and husband, Matt, Forrest "Terry" Commander III; brother, John Commander and wife, Billie; brother-in-law, James Stone and wife, Nancy; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorials may be made Community Service Center at Granbury Church of Christ, or American Cancer Society.

Red Commander was a good gentle man. He always had a smile and was a caring husband and father. I knew him in church in Waco, Tx. Every Sunday or evening gathering was graced by his presence. Now he resides with the LORD. May we all see him once again. God bless you, Red.
