Gladys Powell Mayhew

Gladys Powell Mayhew, 98, of Pancake, passed away on Monday, March 8, 2010. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, March 11, at Scott's Funeral Home with Dr. Steve Dominy officiating. Burial will follow at Jonesboro Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Gladys was born on July 6, 1911, in Coryell County. She was the daughter of the late Gus Jones and Emma Powell Jones. She graduated from Gatesville High School in 1930 and married Samuel Monroe Mayhew in Oct. of 1931, in Gatesville. She worked at the Jonesboro ISD for 31 years. She was also a member of the Jonesboro Methodist Church. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband; parents; son, Sammy Powell Mayhew; siblings, Walter Jones, Buster Jones, Marvin Jones, Thurman Jones, Georgia Patterson, Nona Brown and Pauline Chambers. She is survived by her son, Billy Mayhew and wife, Betty; daughter, Barbara Terrell Miller and husband, Tom, all of Gatesville; daughter-in-law, Joann Mayhew Gray of Waco; grandchildren, Janet Lopez and husband, David, of Waco, Johnny Mayhew and wife, Monica, of Hewitt; Jacqueline Gohlke and husband, Randy, of Coryell City, David Mayhew and wife, Marci, Suzanne Mayhew, both of Gatesville; sister-in-law, Sue Jones of Gatesville; great-grandchildren, Nikki Hill, Shauna Hill, Angie Hudson and husband, Keith, Jake Mayhew, Marleigh Mayhew and Micah Mayhew; great-great-grandchildren, Kalib Hudson, and Grace Hudson.
