Smith, Helen Miller

October 17, 1927 - January 2, 2025

Helen Louise Miller Smith, born October 17, 1927, long time native of Waco and graduate of Waco High School Class of 1946, passed away peacefully at the age of 97 on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at the Houston area home of her daughter, Julia Ann Smith Crawford. She is survived by her daughter Judy and granddaughter Sarah L. Crawford with whom she shared a home for 25 years. She also is survived by son, Michael T. Smith and wife Frances in Missouri City; granddaughter, Whitney L. Nelson Smith of Austin; grandson Jason S. Smith and wife Erin and triplet great grandsons 5 year old Cullen, Cooper, and Connor Smith in Houston; nephew Paul and wife Karen Miller of Austin and sons Brian, Troy and Wade. Family was very much cherished by Helen.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years Claud T. Smith, retired Truck Engineer of Waco Fire Department; her brother, Gerry Miller, her mother, Louise Ryan, step father, George T. Ryan, and father, Gerry Miller.

Helen's life accomplishments were many as an intelligent woman of her time working for various Federal Government departments during WWII and retiring from the Veterans Affairs Legal Department. She also worked several years for the McLennan County District Attorney's Office. She was proud of her membership in the Reuter Rats "gang" as a youth and adult. She was a devoted Astros baseball fan and never missed viewing a game on television! She also was considered a Masters Bridge Player! She was an exceptional homemaker specializing and famous for her delicious pecan pies and her seamstress talents, treasured skills of her time. She liked throwing a good Party too!

A private family service will be held in Waco Memorial Park alongside her husband Claud. She was a member of Central Christian Church. Helen loved music and dancing on earth and she is Dancing with her departed love ones in Heaven. She was loved and will be missed!
