Jerry Mattiza Obituary

Jerry Ray Mattiza

10/07/1950 - 12/11/2022

At his side, our family said goodbye to Jerry Ray Mattiza, who passed away Sunday evening December 11, 2022, at the age of 72.

Jerry was born October 07, 1950, in McGregor, Texas. He is son of the late Raymond and Johanna Mattiza, parents he greatly loved, admired and missed dearly. We take comfort knowing they are together again.

We find joy imagining the moment Bubba and CJ, his beloved dachshunds, ran to him as he entered those gates, and they stand watch as he tosses handfuls of feed, five to be exact, to the Koi fish he raised for years. Perhaps then, he'll dust off the canvas, brushes and oils to paint the evening skies he once so modestly mastered.

Jerry's upbringing brought tales of adventure and experiences he loved to share. He had an otherworldly knack for bargain hunting and spoiled everyone with those findings. His 47 years of dedicated service at Central Freight Lines instilled a strong work ethic in us all.

Jerry's final years brought everyone closer and strengthened his family's bond. And the fishing advice he handed down gives us all a better chance of catching a channel cat or two.

We greatly love, admire and miss him dearly.

He is survived by daughter Angie Mattiza Napolitano and husband James, his son Scott Mattiza and wife Shannon, three grandchildren Dalton Mattiza, Haylen Mattiza and Angelina Napolitano, and close friend Lucy Campbell.

Jerry's life will be celebrated in a private family gathering.
