Joel Crain Obituary

Crain, Joel Clayton

June 30, 1940 - March 20, 2024

Joel Clayton Crain, 83 passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 surrounded by his family.

Born on June 30, 1940 in Trent, TX to Madge and John Crain.  He grew up in Trent and attended Trent High School, where he formed a deep bond with his childhood sweetheart, Hilda, who loved him dearly.  Their love story began in the innocence of youth, in church 80 years ago and blossomed into a lifelong partnership of 64 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.

In addition to Hilda, Joel is survived by daughter, Carla Janay Neumann, husband Kirby Neumann, son Jeffrey Kel Crain, wife Laura Crain; grandchildren - Kaycie Baker, husband Robert Smith, Kellie Thiele, husband Derek Thiele, Kayla Neumann, Peter Tilton, Addison Crain and great grandchild – Clayton Thiele, who were a source of joy and pride throughout his life.

He was preceded in death by his loving mother Madge Crain, father John Crain, sister Lady Fred and brother-in-law Ralph Caffey and great nephew Trevor.

Joel's passion in life was his wife and family, being in nature, hunting, his gun collection, RVing and his friends.  As the seasons changed and time marched on, he gracefully transitioned from the thrill of the hunt to the artistry of capturing nature's beauty through the lens of his camera, all the while exploring the open road in their RV.

Visitation will be Friday, March 29th from 10:00am – 12:30pm at Starbucks Funeral Home, 1022 N 2nd St, Merkel, TX.  A graveside service will follow at 1:00pm at Rose Hill Cemetery, N 2nd St, Merkel, TX.

Joel's legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were touched by his presence. May he rest in eternal peace.
