Minor L. Helm, Jr., 83, passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2021.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, May 21, at Lake Shore Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday May 22, at Lake Shore Funeral Home.

Minor L. Helm, Jr. was born November 27, 1937, in Denton, to Minor and Katherine Helm.

He attended Sunset High School where he was active in debate, ROTC and Spanish. For his higher education he attended the University of Texas at Austin, graduating with honors and was a Longhorn fan for life. He enrolled in UT Law School and was admitted to the bar in 1961. Minor was also admitted to practice before the U. S. Supreme Court; U.S. Court of Appeals as well as Northern, Eastern and Western districts of Texas. He was board certified, Labor and Employment Law, Lecturer/Law Professor at Baylor University School of Law from 1965-82. He also authored "Establishment and Priority of Liens for Development and Improvement of Real Estate". Minor was especially proud to achieve the highest possible peer review rating in legal ability and ethical standards for 40 years. He was a partner in the oldest continuing law firm in Texas until he had to close. He was then honored to be asked to join Pakis, Giotes, Page & Burleson Law Firm from which he retired. He practiced law in Waco for 53 years, he was a friend to all and a very humble man.

Minor was a longtime member of Richfield Christian Church. He gave his time and talent to serve on numerous boards.

He enjoyed life, loved talking to people and laughing. Minor was deeply loved and will be sorely missed by his family, friends and many relatives.

Minor was preceded in death by infant daughter, Deborah Jean; wife, Jean; parents; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth; and brother-in-law, Jamie Preddy.

He is survived by wife, Vivian; daughter, Sandra Waelder and husband, Martin; son, Charles M. Helm; daughter, Kay Preddy; granddaughters, Lauren Waelder and husband, Ludwig Barragan, Mary Waelder, Emily Hall and husband, Carter, Miranda Helm and Mercedes Helm; and sister-in-law, Karen Erck.

The family would like to thank Baylor Scott & White Hospice and staff, especially Amber and Jose.

The family would also like to thank special neighbors Vicki and Lou Jiardina, who for months have given unselfishly of themselves to cross the street to pick up Minor at all hours and have been by Vivian's side so he could be cared for in his home.
