Our deepest condolences to the family of Mrs. Ruby Garner. We were proud to know her. Our son was one of her piano students. He was in the first grade in 1972 and continued with Mrs. for nine years. She was an excellent teacher. My husband and I were teachers and we recognized her teacher qualities as well as her lovely maternal qualities. I learned much about the piano as I waited there in her home while our son finished his lessons. I could even play his music pieces that I learned while waiting for him. Often Mr. Garner arrived home during these lessons. He was very warm and friendly and accommodated me during my wait. I enjoyed his conversation about his hobbies and interest in the children.
The piano recitals were something to which we looked forward on those Sunday evenings and some Saturdays. My family arrived proudly to hear our son play his pieces as though our son was one of the great classic composers. Mrs. Garner treated him as such. We still have pictures of her with our son that we took the day of the recitals. She was truly a joy and we loved her, too.
Over the years, I have passed their house and always thought of the Garners lovingly.
I will sadly tell my 42 year old son, Louis, of her passing.
My son was the only black child in her group. She welcomed him so lovingly and he loves her still.
You are so blessed to have her as your love. I pray that her sweet memory will live in the way you live your life.
We will keep you, her family, in our prayers.
