Alice Furasek Obituary
LINCOLN – Alice M. Furasek, 85, of Lincoln, formerly of Wahoo, died June 4 in Lincoln.
Furasek was born on Feb. 13, 1927 in Raymond to Ferdinand and Verna (Pokorny) Fujan. She attended elementary schools in Raymond, Davey and Abie before graduating from Malmo High School in 1944. After graduation, she attended normal training at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln before teaching country school north of Valparaiso for one year.
She married Adolph J. Furasek on Sept. 24, 1945 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wahoo. They lived on a farm near Touhy until moving to Wahoo in 1970. While living on the farm and raising her family, Alice was a housewife and homemaker. After moving to Wahoo in 1970 she was a waitress at the Fairview Cafe for over 17 years, retiring in 1989.
He preceded her in death on March 7, 2012 after 66 years of marriage.
She is a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and Altar Rosary Society and a former member of St. Vitus Catholic Church and Altar Rosary Society.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; great-grandchildren, Callie Reinke, Samuel and Marie Jakub; brother, George Fujan; and half brother, Bohumil Fujan.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Ken Webb of Pottstown, Penn.; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Diane Furasek and Larry and Carol Furasek, all of Lincoln; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Delores Fujan of Wahoo, Fred and Edna Fujan of Lincoln; sisters, Mary Ann Votipka of Exeter, Geraldine Palanuk of Oak Ridge, Ore.; and sister-in-law, Helen Potter of Valparaiso; many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday June 8 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wahoo with Revs. Charles Townsend and Craig Clinch officiating. Interment was at St. Vitus Cemetery at Touhy.
Casket bearers were Ron Fujan, Mike Furasek, Mark Furasek, Todd Furasek, Aaron Furasek and Steve Webb.
Memorials in lieu of flowers, family request mass offerings or memorials to American Diabetes Association or to the church.
Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo was in charge of the arrangements.
