Donald L. Shandera, 90, of Ashland, NE, entered into rest on Monday, June 9, 2025 at his home in rural Ashland, NE. He was born May 5, 1935 on a farm near Prague, NE to Louis and Hattie (Dolezal) Shandera. On July 7, 1957, Don was united in marriage to Marie Havlat.

Don was a devoted family man, raising two children, Donald Jr. and Sharon. He took great pride in his farm and family. Don was also a truck driver in Omaha for many years. He served his country in the U.S. Army as a combat engineer, stationed in Germany, until he was honorably discharged.

Don loved country music and polka dancing. He also loved animals, playing baseball with his family and watching professional wrestling.

He is survived by his children, Donald Jr. (Phyllis) Shandera of Decator, IL and Sharon (Aaron) Dovel of Ashland, NE; grandchildren, Donald III (Colleen) Shandera, Michelle (Luke), Lisa, Melissa (Justin), Michael and Leah; great-grandchildren, Triston, Mayson, Bryson, Kinsley, Austyn, Morgan, Alexandria, Gage, Maddox, Owen, Connor, Jaxson and Adilyn; brothers, Leonard Shandera and Arnold (Charlene) Shandera; sister-in-law, Delores; many other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Shandera; parents, Louis and Hattie Shandera; sister, Bernice Meyer; brother-in-law, Kenneth Meyer; sister-in-law, Rita Shandera.

Funeral Service, Saturday (6/14/2025) 10:00 a.m. at American Lutheran Church, 1941 Silver St., Ashland, NE.

Visitation, Friday (6/13/2025) 5-8 p.m. with 7 p.m. Prayer Service at Marcy Mortuary, Ashland, NE.

Interment with military honors at Ashland Cemetery, Ashland, NE.
