Joan L. Sila Funeral service for Joan L. Sila, 87, of Norfolk will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 26, 2024 at the Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk. Interment will be held at the New Lutheran Cemetery, Norfolk. Visitation will be 2:00-4:00 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 25, also at Stonacek Funeral Chapel. Joan passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at the Faith Regional Hospital in Norfolk. Stonacek Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Joan was born on March 26, 1936 in Norfolk, NE to Wilber and Ella (Suher) Ludwig. She grew up on the family farm, rural Beemer and graduated from Wisner High School. Joan married Russ Sila Sr. on August 5, 1956 in West Point. After marriage, Joan and Russ lived in West Point, Beemer, and moved to Pierce in the 1960's. In 1968 they moved to Wahoo and worked for the Gas Company. In 1972 they moved back to Norfolk Russ worked for Minnegasco in Norfolk. Joan worked at the Norfolk Daily News in Accounting and Advertising until she retired in 1990. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Norfolk and also Altar Guild. Joan enjoyed camping, traveling the United States with her husband on their motorcycles to the East and West Coast, Canada, and Mexico. They wintered in Arizona. Joan collected plates and spoons of the United States. Survivors include her spouse Russ Sila Sr. of Norfolk, 3 sons Russ (Chris) Sila Jr. of Madison, Jay (Ginny) Sila of Lewiston, Idaho, Cully (Lita) Sila of Madison, 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, siblings Terry Ludwig of Washington, Judy (Jerald) Groene of Oakland, Jackie (Marvin) Lindquist of Boise, Idaho, numerous nieces and nephews.
