Robert E. Brodd, age 87, of Fremont, died Saturday, February 8, 2025 at Nebraska Medicine in Omaha.

Robert Elwood Brodd was born December 21, 1937, to Evald and Dorothea (Knudsen) Brodd in Lincoln, NE. He was baptized on March 20, 1938, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Ceresco, NE. and confirmed on May 31, 1953, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Wahoo, NE. He grew up in Wahoo and graduated from Wahoo High School in 1956. He enlisted in the Nebraska Air National Guard in 1955 and served until 1963. He attended Luther College in Wahoo, NE. and graduated with an Associate In Arts degree in 1958 and continued further classes at Midland Lutheran College.

He began his working years for a brief time at Kassmeier Implement, Western Electric and Gambles Warehouse before a 34-year career at Valmont Industries, retiring in 2001.

Among his hobbies and loves were of course his wife and family, his church and faith and for fun his old tractors and cars and singing Barbershop music with the Pathfinder Chorus.

He was united in marriage to Laura Ann Peters on June 23, 1963, at Grace Lutheran Church in Hooper, NE. and they made their home in the Fremont area for 61 years. To this marriage they welcomed two sons, Brian and Daryl.

Robert was a faithful member of Bluffs Trinity Lutheran Church while on their acreage northwest of Fremont and a member of First Lutheran Church in Fremont where he served on numerous committees and was instrumental in the Star Cross Ministry where he spent countless hours in building and repairing them for church members.

He is survived by his wife Laura Ann; sons Brian (Pam) Brodd of Fremont, NE, and Daryl (Ann) Brodd of Ames, NE. Grandchildren Kristen (Nate) Mishou of Kearney, NE, Curtis (Kristina) Brodd of Sioux Falls, SD, Kenan Brodd of Fremont, NE, Emily and Alexa Brodd of Ames, NE; and great-granddaughter Makenna Leann Mishou (born February 12, 2025); sister Arlene (Jerry) Johnson of Wahoo, NE; brother Roger (Elizabeth) Brodd of Elkhorn NE; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Evald and Dorothea; mother and father-in-law Myrtle and William E. Peters; brother and sister-in-law Wiltrude and Morelle Toelle; niece Sharolyn Biermann; and nephew Bill Brodd.

Visitation was held Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., and the family was present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The funeral service was held Thursday, 10 a.m., at First Lutheran Church in Fremont. Burial was held in the Hooper Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family, a memorial fund will be determined at a later date.

Bob and I were good friends we both found joy working on old cars
We worked together for many years at Valmont even Road together
In my old VW van with our supervisor at the time Harold Ehly and a
couple other friends. The old van didn´t have much of a heater so
when it got really cold I bolted a kerosene heater between the front
seats and it did a great job of keeping us warm when it got really cold.
