William Walter (Bill) Lorenz Jr.
September 30, 1947 - September 5, 2025
William Walter (Bill) Lorenz Jr., 77, of Omaha, NE, was born to William W. Lorenz Sr. and Shirley (Miller) Lorenz on September 30,1947. He was raised on a farm just outside of Yutan. He graduated from Yutan Elementary and Yutan High School, in 1966. While in high school he played football, basketball and ran track. He was also a member of the high school band where he played the saxophone. Growing up he loved Oliver tractors, just like his dad. He owned one that still sits at Bill's Wahoo Motel. Bill loved to walk the train tracks and hunt pheasants with his brothers.
After graduating from high school, Bill attended Fairbury Junior College and lived with his Uncle Don and Aunt Peggy Miller. They enjoyed the time he stayed with them. He moved to Omaha and lived with his college friends. He met and dated Kathy Wiese who was the love of his life. They were married at St. Mary's Catholic Church in West Point, NE, in 1975. They had two sons, William Walter (Billy) Lorenz III and Todd Wayne Lorenz. They were his pride and joy. He loved to watch them play baseball and football. Bill loved the outdoors and jumped at the chance to take his sons fishing.
Bill enjoyed taking his boys to all sorts of events. They never missed the Offutt Air Force Base Air Show, and Monster Truck shows and tractor pulls at the Civic Auditorium. Kathy didn't always agree with the outings, especially the one that involved camping in the UNO parking lot and staying awake all night to see Halley's Comet! Bill was very proud that both boys were able to attend college and follow their dreams. As the boys got older, they loved to go to the casinos, horse races and play keno with their parents!
Bill worked the night shift at Western Electric (AT&T) for many years. He got the nickname "Dollar Bill" because he was always willing to work overtime. Bill would push a large cart with coffee that he would sell to his coworkers! He also worked part-time as a security guard for several years.
Bill enjoyed walking in the Corporate Cup in Omaha for the American Lung Association for several years. It was not unusual for Bill to get all the Lorenz family out for a walk after a big holiday dinner! He would always joke that he would need to walk home to work off the meal!!
Bill and Kathy enjoyed playing Dominoes with a group of friends. They would play during the week and on Saturdays! They even played during the Husker games. It was a tradition to play 12 plus zero Dominoes at all family gatherings. Bill and Kathy also enjoyed going to the movies once a week.
In 2022, Bill and Kathy moved to Hill Crest Cottages in Papillion, NE. He and Kathy continued to enjoy watching game shows, especially The Price is Right and their favorite Soap Operas. It was there that Bill passed away on September 5, 2025. after a fall and brief illness.
He is survived by his son, Billy Lorenz III; his two brothers, Robert Lorenz (Pat Oliver) of Omaha and Tim (Mary) Lorenz of Wahoo; his brothers-in-laws, Larry (Nancy) Wiese of Dakota Dunes, SD and Randy (Kathy) Wiese of Omaha; his sisters-in-laws, Janet (Joe) Schueth of West Point, Marilyn Hawn of Papillion, Joyce (Tim) Stalp of West Point.
