Dennis Williamson Obituary

Dennis John Williamson, a resident of Tampa, Florida, formerly of Warrensburg, passed away on March 26, 2023. He was 75 years old.
Dennis was born in Lyons, Kansas, and lived in nearby Little River until the family moved to Warrensburg in 1964, with his parents having taken over Hursh Furniture Co.
He had been in declining health, having first been diagnosed with meningioma and later with frontotemporal dementia.
Throughout Dennis' rich and full life, with his kind and caring heart, he was remarkably and selflessly devoted to others. He was genuinely happy about their accomplishments and went the extra mile for those in need.
He was the third generation of his family in the furniture business. With Naomi, his wife of 51 years, he owned and operated Dean Williamson Furniture. At the age of 16, he began working at the family business. When he was a student at Central Missouri State College, now the University of Central Missouri, it was an unwritten rule that no deliveries would be scheduled for Friday afternoons. A favorite story from one of those Friday afternoons was when the waitress who Dennis thought was winking at him was, in fact, the bar's cash register.
Dennis considered his customers to also be his friends and took great satisfaction in having served multiple generations of several families. His personal attention and emphasis on customer service made it possible for Dean Williamson Furniture to not just survive but to be successful when so many other independent businesses have had to close their doors. In 2018, Dennis was honored by the Missouri House of Representatives with a resolution on his nearly 55 years in the furniture business.
Even before his retirement, which was also in 2018, Dennis and Naomi enjoyed traveling.
When their children were young, the family visited Australia, with his mother having been a WWII war bride. When his parents renewed their wedding vows 50 years later, Dennis proudly walked his mother down the aisle.
Dennis was an avid fisherman and loved to garden and cookout. He was a Chiefs' season-ticket holder for nearly 25 years and was, to the end, a loyal and enthusiastic fan of the 2023 Super Bowl champs.
Dennis was fiercely and totally devoted to his wife Naomi; his son Devon and wife Barb; grandsons Alexander and Nicholas, who continued to be his pride and joy; daughter Dené and partner Elise; his three siblings and other family members; three godchildren; a host of friends and admirers; and to his parents, for whom he cared in their declining years.
Dennis' oldest goddaughter treasures the advice he gave her when she was in college, which she has used in her career and has shared countless times with others, particularly those she has mentored: "it's only awkward if you make it awkward."
A memorial service is planned for a later date. The family suggests donations to Survival House (137 E. Culton St., Warrensburg, MO 64093) or the charitable organization of the donor's choice.
