Larry Reiter Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Husband and
Father, Larry Allen Reiter, who departed this life on November 18th, 2025, at the age of
76. He was a cherished family member, a dependable friend, and demonstrated
unwavering commitment in his role as a public servant throughout his lifetime.
Born on August 10th, 1949, in Bloomfield, Missouri, Larry was the son of Donald and
Virginia Reiter of Puxico, Missouri. He graduated from Puxico High School in 1967 and
continued his education at Southeast Missouri State University, where he earned a
Bachelor of Science degree in Education. Shortly thereafter, Larry served two years in
the United States Air Force before transitioning to the Air National Guard, where he
served an additional six years. While in the Air National Guard, Larry worked full-time as
a teacher in Greenville, Missouri, where he met Barbara Ann Milam of Saint Louis,
Missouri. They were married on September 24, 1977, and shared 48 years together.
Throughout his distinguished career, Larry dedicated 32 years to the Missouri Public
Education system, serving in numerous capacities, including Teacher, High School
Principal, Vocational Technical School Director, Assistant School District
Superintendent, and School District Superintendent, until his retirement in 2005. He
subsequently spent 12 additional years as Director of Teacher Certification at the
University of Central Missouri, retiring in 2017. His professional journey was marked by
the attainment of several advanced degrees, including a PhD in Education from the
University of Missouri, Columbia. Larry's career reflected an unwavering commitment to
educational excellence and service to future generations.
Larry will be remembered for his sense of humor, kindness, generosity, and unwavering
spirit. A devoted husband and father, Larry always prioritized the well-being of his family
above all else. He found great joy in coaching his children's soccer, basketball, and
baseball teams, and spent countless hours playing with them, sharing laughter, lessons,
and love that will be cherished forever. His positive impact on students, colleagues, and
his community endures through his long-standing contributions and perseverance,
notably exemplified during his extended battle with cancer.
Larry is survived by his wife, Barbara, of Lake of the Ozarks, MO; his children: Cory and
his wife Jessica, Holly and her husband Jake, Marcus and his wife Rylie; and seven
grandchildren: Kaycee, Madison, Graham, Wyatt, Ellie, Mollie, and Remi. He is also
remembered by numerous extended family members and friends.
A visitation to celebrate Larry's life will be held on Saturday, November 22nd from 1:00pm
to 2:30pm, immediately followed by a memorial service at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren
Funeral Home in Warrensburg, MO. All who knew and loved him are welcome to attend
and share their memories of him.
Although he is gone, his memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate
enough to have known him. May he rest in peace.
