Lawrence Province Obituary
Lawrence (Larry) Province, was born July 24, 1954, to Paul and Emma Province in Kansas City, MO. He passed peacefully in his sleep on January 18, 2021.
Larry was a 1972 graduate of Ruskin High School in Kansas City, MO. He then played a semester of baseball at Northwest Missouri State University before enlisting in the United States Air Force for six years in Weapons Maintenance. After serving in the military, Larry was a 1982 graduate from Central Missouri State University where he met Susan through their shared love of bowling. He then completed his Master's in 1983 from CMSU.
Larry and Susan were married on June 16, 1983, in Kansas City, MO. They were married for 27 years before Larry lost Susan to breast cancer.
Larry was employed as the Safety Manager at the University of Central Missouri from April 1983 until retiring in September 2009. Even after retirement, he continued to teach classes off and on for several more years as an adjunct safety instructor.
Larry was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Warrensburg, MO. He was also a member of The American Legion Post No. 131; serving as a Vice President on the board of directors. He was the committee chairmen for bingo and participated in the Legion Riders. Larry will also be remembered for his love of fishing, hunting, golf, and his pets; Benadryl and Oliver (The Great Orange Hunter).
Larry is survived by his three children: Stacy Province Barkdull of Justin, TX, Danny Province of Beijing, China, and Kristen Barrett and husband Shawn of Warner Robins, GA. He was loved by two grandchildren: Colten Barkdull and Veronica Barrett. He is also survived by his siblings: Linda Cassidy and husband Jim of Liberty, MO, Joy Simon and husband Michael of Sedalia, MO and Loren Province and wife Michelle of Liberty, MO. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Susan Province, and his parents, Paul and Emma Province.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2021, at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home, 617 N. Maguire St., Warrensburg, MO 64093.
From 10 a.m. through 12 p.m. family and friends will be able to pay respects to Larry with an open casket viewing followed by a closed service for family at 2 p.m. with Zoom video for others who wish to attend virtually. Larry will then be laid to rest in the Englewood Cemetery in Clinton, MO next to the love of his life, Susan, following the funeral service.
