Jerry Lynn Griffin
Jerry Lynn Griffin, age 76, of
Mulberry, Florida passed away on January 4, 2023 at Lakeland Hospice House in
Lakeland, Florida due to lung cancer. Jerry was born on November 27, 1946 in the NW Florida town of Chipley. He was the youngest of 6 siblings of parents Leslie Ard Griffin and Clyde Ophelia Sharron Griffin. He is survived by daughter Kelly Diane Griffin, Mulberry, his brother Aldin Griffin (Shirley) of
Titusville, Fla. and John Kelly, brother-in-law, of Lakeland. Jerry attended Chipley High School then moved to
Plant City, Fla. He served in the U.S. Army during 1966-67 and recieved an honorable discharge. He met Lorie (Lori) Ellen Kelly, the love of his life, in Plant City and they were married October 22, 1965 and were inseperable for 56 years until her passing November 1, 2021. Jerry is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Virginia Griffin, brother Franklin Griffin, brother Donald Griffin and brother Phillip Griffin. Jerry worked in the phosphate industry for several companies in Polk County, Fla. He was a "car guy" which was a favorite topic. He had quite a few cars and trucks during his lifetime but a 5.0 litre 1986 Mustang LX was among his favorites. He was skilled mechanically and could repair most anything. Jerry would tell you he made the most important decision of his life about 8 years ago when he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Jerry reaffirmed and recommitted his life to the Lord on Sunday January 1, 2023. His strong faith in Christ gave him hope and daily strength which was very evident in the months of sickness until his passin on January 4, 2023. Special thanks to Jerry's niece Janet Surrency and husband Frank Surrency as they cared for and assisted Jerry in so many ways in his final months. Also thank you to family friend Andrea Brower who has been helpful to Jerry and daughter Diane. A memorial service for Jerry was held on February 18, 2023 at 1:00 P.M. at the Southside Assembly of God Church, 4750 Cleveland Heights Boulevard in
Lakeland, Florida. Interment followed February 21, 2023 at 1:00 P.M. at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida where both Jerry and his wife Lori were laid to rest. If you wish to honor Jerry please consider your favorite charity.
