Abraham Genderson Obituary

GENDERSON

ABRAHAM GENDERSON

of Chevy Chase, a loving and beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at the age of 103. A life-long Washingtonian, Abe starred on the DC championship basketball team at Central High School before serving as a Navy pilot during World War II. He flew over the troop transports on D-Day. After the war, he met and married the love of his life, Charlotte Schneider, and they recently celebrated their 76th anniversary. Shortly after the war, Abe and his father-in-law, Max Schneider, opened a liquor and wine shop, Schneider's of Capitol Hill, which has become a landmark on the Hill and is now operated by the fourth family generation. Abe also owned a beer distributorship in DC and Maryland before retiring to Florida, where Abe and Charlotte spent many wonderful years playing tennis until his mid-90s, golf until his late 90s, and socializing with their many, many friends. He led a full life and was still driving and riding his bike at 100. Abe is predeceased by his son Jonathan, his brother, Milton, his sister and brother-in-law, Sylvia and Les Rosenzweig, and sister-in-law and brother-in-laws Cecil and Joe Brenner and Irv Warshaw. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Genderson; his sons Bruce (Donna) and Richard (Staci); his daughter-in-law Lori; eight grandchildren, Margo, Alana, Jamie, Josh, Kara, Max, Elyse, and Rachel and their spouses, 10 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Family meant everything to Abe, and he adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who gave him so much pleasure. His life was truly a blessing to his family and everyone who knew him. The funeral service will take place at Congregation B'nai Tzedek, 10621 S Glen Rd., Potomac, MD 20854 on Thursday, November 3, 2022, at 1 p.m. with an interment thereafter at King David Cemetery. The family will be sitting Shiva at the home of Donna and Bruce Genderson on Thursday and Saturday evenings. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.

Our heartfelt condolences to Charlotte and family. No doubt a great loss to you and to all who knew and loved him. Mother recalls fondly decades of friendship, celebratory occasions and times together... most recently at Moe's birthday party in September. "As long as we live, they too will live; for they are now a part of us as we remember them." With deepest sympathy, Melissa on behalf of the Yanowitz family.

Abe was my father“s best man at his wedding and more. I was always going over to the house to get advise or just hang out. Able drove us 6 neighbor jr high girls to school if it was raining. We had no school bus and boy what he must have heard. He was the most beautiful person both inside and out. I love aunt charlotte and uncle Abe until my death.
