Alan Smith Obituary

Alan Francis Smith of Locust Grove, VA was born to Floyd and Roberta Smith on July 10, 1961 and passed on November 1, 2025 to go Home to his Heavenly Father. He is predeceased by his father Floyd, grandparents and many extended family members.
He is survived by his wife Tammy Smith, his children Christopher (Vesper), Brandon (Jennifer) and Alison (Austin). His grandchildren Madison, Dean, Emry and Arlo. His mother Roberta Santry, his three sisters Sharon Boyd (Paul), Linda McQuiston (Scott) and Debbie Spencer; Many in laws and extended family.
Alan was a PGA professional and most recently taught with the First Tee of America through Prince William Parks & Rec in Woodbridge VA. Teaching those children became a passion because so many would never have the chance to play golf.
Finding someone to say anything negative about him would be nearly impossible. He was generous, kind and genuine. There are too many amazing stories to tell here. So many hearts broke the day he left earth to be with his Savior. He is out of pain and we hope he's teaching everyone in heaven how to play golf.
He volunteered for Links to Freedom which taught wounded veterans how to play golf. He was so proud to be a part of it and they were proud to have him. They gave him medals and all the accolades he deserved.
He often talked about when Christopher got his first guitar and Alan rarely missed a show once he joined a band. He was so proud to see how he self taught himself to play. He ran the USMC marathon to honor our son Brandon who was enlisted from 2004-2008 and to honor all the men and women that were lost in Brandon's platoon. He taught Alison to drive a golf cart before she could reach the pedals, sitting on his lap.
His grandchildren were his pride and joy. Emry would snuggle up with Papa and ask for a roller coaster ride. Alan would get a dining chair, turn it upside down and watch roller coasters on YouTube and move the chair around to mimic the coaster. Madison always loved for Papa to watch her dance with the Wii. She loved the encouragement and praise he gave. Dean has taken up golf and hopes to join the golf team next year. When he told his Papa how much he loved it, Alan beamed with pride. Then our son in law Austin asked him for lessons. Even when he couldn't stand to teach he was able to give lessons.
Alan and Tammy met because flying standby didn't allow her to make the flight so she went back to the hotel and there he was, the most beautiful man she'd ever seen. Recently Tammy said "just think if I hadn't gotten bumped from that plane" and his reply was simple "I would have found you, you were my one and only." I'm not sure he could have given a better answer.
His loss will be profoundly felt by everyone that ever knew him, but he is whole again and out of pain and living with all those who passed before and Jesus our Savior.
Alan's service will be held Saturday, November 8,2025 at Laurel Hill Funeral Home, 10127 Plank Road, Spotsylvania VA. Visitation starts at 1 p.m. and the funeral service will start at 2 p.m. followed by refreshments.
Flowers are welcome or donate to the First Tee through Prince William Parks & Rec in his honor.
