Allan Morton Bratman obituary

Allan Bratman Obituary

cherished by all who knew him, died peacefully on November 8, 2025 at his home in Palm Beach, FL.
A business leader and longtime resident of Washington, DC, he was co-founder and president of Market Tire Company, which he grew, along with Nationwide Safety Brake Centers, to 40 retail locations across the metropolitan region. In 1965, he helped launch Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA), a national service program to alleviate poverty. He was a previous member of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO), Adas Israel Congregation and Woodmont and Palm Beach Country Clubs.
Allan was born July 24, 1927, to Dora and Samuel Bratman of Baltimore, MD. He entered college at age 16, served in the U.S. Navy, then earned a B.A. in economics from the University of Michigan. There, he met his wife of 39 years, the late Joan Silverman Bratman of Sharon, PA. They raised three children in Bethesda, MD. In 1993, Allan married Sally Axelrad of Baltimore. They lived in Palm Beach, where they enjoyed playing bridge and delivering holiday meals to fellow seniors and Allan read three newspapers daily.
Allan loved to travel, meet people and genuinely learn about everyone's story. He had a sharp mind and an extraordinary memory. Washington was a favorite city. His family recalls a walk along the C & O Canal when he saw a young boy fall into a canal lock and immediately jumped into the water to save him.
He is survived by his devoted wife Sally, children Lynn, Steven and Jean; stepdaughter Susan; grandchildren Benjamin, Jacob, Trevor, Kira, Emma, Marley, Harper and Charlotte; great-granddaughter Luella and great-grandson Mackenzie.
A private service will be held November 13. Donations in Allan's memory may be made to Trustbridge Hospice Care of Palm Beach County.
