Amy Halpern Obituary

Amy Suzanne (Lipsius) Halpern died at home surrounded by family on Thursday, November 20, 2025. She was 60 years old and had battled cancer for 11 years. The news that she was sick will surprise many who worked alongside her because she chose to live life to the fullest and refused to let cancer define her, her relationships, and her life.
Amy's husband of 34 years (though they had loved each other since meeting during Amy's first year at college), Jay Halpern, and their three children Kyle, Stephanie and Luke are heartbroken with her passing, while celebrating her joie de vivre. Her mother, Paula Kolsky Lipsius, her parents-in-law, Gail and Colin Halpern of Florida, her siblings Adam Lipsius of Colorado and Elizabeth Lipsius and her husband Don Peck of California, and sisters-in-law Nancy Halpern of New York and Lisa Halpern of Connecticut survive her, as well. All will remember Amy's effortless willpower, glowing creativity, and over-flowing heart.
Amy attended Thomas S. Wootton High School in Rockville, Emory University in Atlanta and Columbia University in New York, where she received a Masters in Journalism. She was an Associate Producer at Frontline where she won an Emmy award, a television news anchor at WOAY ABC 4 in Oak Hill, West Virginia, a freelance writer for multiple publications and clients, and a contributing writer for Bethesda Magazine, where her investigative journalism won her a 2025 Arlene Award from the American Society of Journalists and Authors. She has hosted the magazine's Women Who Inspire luncheon. For her strength, class and character, she will inspire those who knew her for the rest of their lives. Amy Halpern, you are loved, missed, and will be in our hearts forever!
A memorial service will be held in her honor at a future date. Some of her writing is available to read at bethesdamagazine.com.

Yesterday

Amy was beautiful and talented and funny and interesting. She loved learning about new things whether it was books or doing research for an important story. It was always fun to be with her and hear about her latest travels and how much she loved her family I will miss her energy and her radiance.

This is one of those times when one finds it extremely difficult to find the words...
Needless to say, nobody who knew Amy at any level, is ever going to be the same without her.
Amy was a warm-hearted, kind, generous, gracious, selfless and beautiful lady.
For the past five or so years (not counting the COVID intermission), her family has hosted ours for each Thanksgiving, with Amy consistently managing her role as a hostess with the sort of fluidity which made it easy to forget just how much time and effort it took to put everything together.
Our family is praying for Amy´s family, both immediate and extended, and sending so much love and gratitude your way.
May Amy´s memory be a huge blessing to all of us, and her legacy be filled with the same love, generosity, humanity and selflessness which defined her in life.

Amy was a person who will be missed by her family and all that knew her. Having known Amy since she was four ( her Uncle Jay since birth) our hearts are broken. We saw her as an amazing child, compassionate young adult and extraordinary wife and mother. It is difficult to imagine the world without Amy in it, but we will hold close all who Amy cherished and help them in any and every way. She lived her life with strength and honor. With love, Aunt Sharon and Uncle Jay.
