Andrew William Swire (Age 63)

Andrew William Swire of Bethesda, Maryland, passed away on May 8th 2023, surrounded by his family. Andrew, known to his friends as Andy, was born to Bill and Stevi Swire on December 7, 1959, in Albany, New York. He graduated from Georgetown University Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service and the Fletcher School at Tufts University.



Professionally, Andy spent more than 20 years at international biotechnology company Amgen's Washington, DC office and prior to that time at PhRMA, healthcare consulting and in government service. Andy was a respected leader in the health policy space and a fierce and effective advocate for patients.



Andy graced those who knew him with immense patience, warmth, and kindness. He was a highly ethical person who was always willing to help others. His favorite places to be were out in nature, singing in Zemer Chai choir and Washington Men's Camerata, and at home with his family and dogs.



Family was the center of Andy's life. He is survived by his wife, Wendy, two sons, Sam and Matt, and daughter-in-law, Jenny. He is also survived by his siblings Amy and Peter, along with 14 nieces and nephews. Andy was predeceased by his parents, Bill and Stevi.



Andy was committed to tikkun olam and making the world a better place. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that mourners donate blood if they are able, or to his favorite organization, JSSA.



The funeral service will begin on Thursday, May 11 at 11:30 AM at Adat Shalom, 7727 Persimmon Tree Ln, Bethesda, MD 20817. There will be a short graveside service and interment at the Garden of Remembrance, 14321 Comus Rd, Clarksburg, MD 20871.
