ANNA CATHERINE BRIGGS (Age 101)
Of Lovettsville, Virginia passed away on Tuesday, February 15, 2011, at Golden Living Rose Hill Nursing Home in Berryville, Virginia.Anna was born on Thursday, December 9, 1909 in Washington, DC. She was the daughter of the late Robert Reynolds and the late Mary Hahn Reynolds. She was The Founder of the National Humane Education Society, which operates The Briggs Animal Adoption Center, and Peace Plantation Animal Sanctuary, in Charles Town, WV. She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Virginia A. Dungan of Lovettsville, VA; seven grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband the late James Briggs in 1945. She was also predeceased by sons, James P. Briggs, II, Robert Oliver Briggs and John R. Briggs, her sister, Margaret Hutchison; brothers, Jack Reynolds and George Reynolds and two grandchildren.Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 19, 2011 at Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Circle, SE, Leesburg, Virginia 20175 with the Rev. Stuart James officiating.Interment will be held privately at a later date.In lieu of flowers, the family requests, memorial contributions may be sent to National Humane Education Society (NHES) PO Box 340 Charles Town, WV 25414, or to The Briggs Animal Adoption Center (BAAC) 3731 Berryville Pike Charles Town, WV 25414.Online condolences may be made to the family at www.loudounfuneralchapel.com

Anna was truly a special person. A day doesn't go by that I don't think of her. Working with her was a gift and she had a profound influence on my life. There are few people in this world that radiate such a meaningful light and Anna was one of them.

Praise God she has no more pain or tears. Catherine is in His care. I would have liked to have had the pleasure to know her more. Her brother Jack, was my brother-in-law. Mrs. Briggs was one of the biggest influences in my life. I worked for her in Leesburg and learned a great deal about perserverence and true generosity of spirit from her. The world has lost a very very special person.

Aunt Catherine and the love for both animals and mankind- that is my lasting memory. She was always happy and upbeat in her soft spoken way. I would have loved to seen her and Grandma (sister Margaret) when they were growing up together- 2 fireballs! We have lost a kind soul and my heart goes out to the family, especially Ginger who always there for her.
