ANTHONY MARCHETTI Obituary

ANTHONY CONRAD MARCHETTI "Tony" (Age 65)
On April 1, 2012, Anthony "Tony" Conrad Marchetti, 65, died peacefully at Virginia Hospital Center. Born on January 28, 1947, Tony grew up in Washington, D.C. and attended Holy Family Catholic School and Archbishop Carroll High School until the family moved to Camp Springs, MD in 1963. He graduated from Surrattsville High School in 1965. Tony attended St. Mary's College of Maryland from 1965 to 1967 as part of the first co-ed class admitting men on campus. It was here that he met Karen Hansen. They were married in May of 1969. In 1972, the Marchetti Family purchased a bar and restaurant located in St. Inigoes, MD. Tony aptly labeled the bar the "Monk's Inn", because it was located on Trapp Road, named after former residents, the Trappist Monks. In 1979, the family sold the business and moved back to the Washington, D.C. area. Tony was preceded in death by his father and mother, the late Carlo and Vivian Marchetti, and his 19 year old son Edwin, who passed away in 1992. He is survived by his sister, Mary Jean Rubino of Burke, VA, and his brother Carl M. Marchetti of Annapolis, MD, together with five nieces and nephews and five great nieces and nephews. A service will be held at Fairfax Memorial Cemetery, 9902 Braddock Road, Fairfax, VA, on June 9, 2012 at 3 p.m., at the gravesite of his late son, Edwin.

Always love this reminder of people we loved and are missed. It is a wonderful memory when I think of my Uncle Carl, Aunt Vivi, Tony, Mary Jean, and Carl. The times we shared with our families are some of the best I have and comfort me as we get older and look back onto our lives. It´s the relationships with people that matter the most. Miss you Tony!! I never tire of seeing your face. It always makes me smile. Your middle name was my dad’s name Conrad. It always reminds me of our families and the times we were together. These are the memories I treasure most. Miss and love you. Donna

Seeing your face today reminded me of how much I miss being with you. Your face reminds only of good times with family, friends and surrounded by love and joy. I needed this reminder because sometimes life takes us down some unsteady paths. You are still blessing our lives while resting in peace. Love you

When I think of Tony I think of him wearing that huge mink coat and Aunt Vivie and my mom laughing so hard they peed their pants. My memories are all of joy and laughter. I think Tony would want to be remembered that way. I think we all would. Love and miss Tony!! Donna Cardano

I was fortunate enough to see Tony in the hospital the Friday before he passed away. I spent about an hour with him and we talked about a few things and I gave him the Marchetti's softball jersey that he had made up for the team more than 30 years ago. It was the No. 1 and had not been worn by anyone. He said he recognized it so I left it for him. We talked some more, then the nurse came in and said Carl was on the phone. As they talked, I'm sure Carl asked if Tony needed anything and he said "yeah some of those Lantz cheese crackers." And then he looked up toward me but over my head toward the ceiling and said, "Clay you want anything?"

I'll miss the guy.

To my dear piasanos: we are friends that became family through our parents and fortunately have kept that relationship throughout the years. my memories of "those years" long gone always include the marchetti's, uncle carl, aunt vivi and now tony. he was one of a kind. tony had a heart as big as they come and a personality to go with it. tony was a larger than life man and we will miss him very much. we love you all and will continue to keep you in our prayers. love randolph/cardano family kevin, donna and john!!

oh the flood of memories started by simply dropping the metro section on the floor during a morning klutz session- it opened in the obits and i immediately recognized a name from the past and the memories have been tsunami-like all day since.... i was instantly transported to the early seventies and my college days---and the wonderful memories of the marchetti family business---a fine family bar and restaurant that was like joining the family for lunch- mom and pop marchetti and the 2 boys---and the italian food was like grandma's....
it has been hard to shut off the flood of memories all day... runnin wild with Carl and Tony trying to be serious but not always succeeding... the funny thing is that the marchetti family had outsized influence on my life--- i was so enamoured with the family business concept that 10 years later i purchased the nearby general store in Saint Inigoes and ran my own family business... and the italian cold cut was nicknamed the "marchetti special"...
it must have been a great time based on the fact i can't stop thinking about all the people and memories...

my condolences to the survivors and a special "HEY!" to brother Carl....

My sister Joan and I send our deepest sympathy to Tony's family. We knew Tony from Elmira St. S.E. in D.C. He and my sister were born on the same month, day and year and they were close friends. I remember him as being funny and teasing me. Never hurtful - always happy go lucky. My sister sends her love. God Bless and rest in peace.
