ARNOLD BERLIN

On Thursday, May 26, 2022, Arnold Berlin passed away peacefully surrounded by family in his home. Born in 1937, he grew up in Brooklyn, New York, taking the subway to Ebbets Field, playing stoopball and rooting for the Brooklyn Dodgers and his favorite players, Duke Snider and Roy Campanella.

He never forgave the Dodgers for leaving Brooklyn. After graduating from Georgia Tech with a BS in Engineering and getting his MBA with distinction from the Harvard Business School, he met the love of his life, Barbara, and married her in 1962. He worked in mortgage banking, then real estate as a property developer and owner, settling in suburban Maryland in the 1970s. He had a lifelong passion for collecting—and was deeply involved in the James Renwick Alliance Craft in support of American contemporary craft. In contrast to his Brooklyn roots, he loved the American West and cut a larger-than-life figure in his daily attire. He enjoyed wearing a cowboy hat and boots, accented by colorful sweaters. He was generous to a fault and would do anything for his children and grandchildren, who always brought a smile to his face, despite his curmudgeonly motto in later years, "Everything's aggravation."

He was predeceased by his parents, Rose and Gerald, and his younger brother Stephen. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara Berlin, his children Justin, Kevin, and Noah (Laura) Berlin and Danielle (Lorenzo) Gori-Montanelli, and grandchildren Calvin, Violet and Elodie Berlin, and Nico and Saskia Gori-Montanelli. A graveside service will be held at Judean Memorial Gardens in Olney, Maryland at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 29. Family will be receiving Sunday at 7 p.m. at the Berlin residence. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rett Syndrome Research Trust at https://reverserett.org. Services entrusted to Sagel Bloomfield Danzansky Goldberg Funeral Care.

We offer our condolences to you, Barbara and your family. While we've not seen you for years we loved our time with you and Arnold and remember his passion for canes. He was a good guy. May time heal your loss.

We only met Barbara and Danielle a few months ago. Even though we never knew Arnold, we got to know him through his loving and caring wife, and talented and welcoming daughter. Through them, we knew that he was a special person and will be deeply missed. Our prayers continue for Barbara and Danielle and all his family. Blessings and memories, John and Sue Fischer
