I was shocked to hear about Carl's death. I worked for Carl at SSA for many years. He was a boss I truly respected for his leadership and knowledge. May he RIP.

I'm shocked and truly saddened to hear this. We exchanged e-mails mid-August and he sounded good. Carl was my boss for many years and I saw many facets of his personality. We had a running joke about him being tough but really he was a kind gentle man. He truly cared about other people and their lives. I'm going to miss him. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

Carl was an exceptional public servant. In the years that we worked together at the old HEW and at SSA, he never faltered. I was sorry to hear of his passing. My sympathy to his family

I had a good visit with Carl recently and shared stories about our childhoods, the world and his interest in history. It was a mellow and fine afternoon and so happy I had that chance to spend with my brother before he left us. Rest in Peace Carl

I am proud that my brother Carl contributed so much to his country as Associate Commissioner of SSA for the Office of Systems Planning and Integration. He had a major role in developing SSA's Systems Modernization Plan which enabled SSA to better serve millions of his fellow citizens.

Few people know that Carl was an outstanding athlete and a race car driver in his youth. He was also a talented artist.

Carl was as generous as he was discrete in helping others in need.

It comforts me to know that the last time I saw him he was happy.

I am truly saddened to hear of Carl's passing. I enjoyed working for him at SSA from the time he hired me in January 2000 until his retirement. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. RIP Carl.

We were blessed to have Carl choose to say with us during his recovery of his two heart surgeries. He and Victor were home together during the entire time, and they really got to know each other. They shared an interest in the Civil War among other things, and shared many memories of growing up in Riverdale and DC. It was a really good time for all of us.

I'm blessed that Uncle Carl was so fond of my son Ethan. I was happy to get to know him better during that period of his life after he had heart surgery about ten years ago. While recovering from that kind of surgery is difficult, that seemed to be a happy time for Uncle Carl and I have enjoyed his notes for us and his notes and gifts for Ethan over the years.

Carl was a good friend and shared my interest in Gettysburg. We took trips there and shared books. We worked together for several years at SSA. I will miss his emails about politics. Rest in Peace.
