BARBARA MARY GLENN CHASE  (Age 93)  
On Friday, October 17, 2014, Barbara Mary Glenn Chase died peacefully after a brief illness. Barbara was born in Bangalore, India, to British parents. She and her brothers George and Norman moved from India to London, to live with relatives just before World War II. Barbara worked as assistant in the British government during the war years. She met US Army Aircorp Lieutenant Ernest Chase, in London, and in 1946, Barbara and Ernest were married in New York City. Barbara worked at Harvard's Widener Library while her husband completed his degrees, and moved to McLean, Virginia when her husband got a job working for GE and eventually the government. They had two boys, Norman Scott and David Alan. Ernest was assigned to a foreign post in Geneva, Switzerland, where the family lived for five years. After returning to McLean, Barbara was a docent at the Smithsonian. She then worked at the Fund For Animals for ten years before retiring. She and her husband enjoyed traveling and spending many hours in their garden. They were married for 63 years before Ernest passed away in 2009. Barbara is survived by her son, David and his wife Karen, grandchildren Megan and Bryan Chase, and Kendrick Withers; nieces, nephews and cousins in Canada and the U.K. A memorial service will be held at Unitarian Universalist Church, 4444 Arlington Blvd., Arlington, VA 22204 on Thursday, November 6 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations can be made to Fund for Animals or National Wildlife Federation.
